Virjean Louise Jones' Obituary
Virjean Louise Jones, 85, of Broken Arrow, died Tuesday morning, May 20, 2014, at Cedar Ridge Assisted Living Center after a long and courageous fight against Parkinson’s Disease. Virjean, or “Jean” as she was known to many, was born September 21, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois, to Edgar and Mildred Field. She grew up In Chicago and lived in the Chicago area until 1987, when she moved to Broken Arrow with her husband for their retirement. Jean loved spending time with family and relished her role as the matriarch of a large family. Jean and Ralph also enjoyed golfing, playing cards, and traveling, until health issues curtailed her activities. Jean also enjoyed worshipping and socializing with two church families that were close to her heart at different times in her life, Pilgrim Faith United Church of Christ In Oak Lawn, Illinois and First United Methodist Church of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Mildred Field; her sister, Shirley Skala; her brother, Jack Field and his wife, Millie. Jean is survived by her husband of nearly 66 years, Ralph; her daughters and their husbands, Lynn Jones and Jim Medill, Judy and Paul Hutter and Kim Jones and Peter Renton; her son and his wife, Ralph and Cheryl Jones; her nine grandchildren and their spouses, Matt and Christina Hutter, Eddie Pierce, Andy and Alissa Hutter, Jeanne and Andy MacKenzie. Ashley and Gerry Molidor, Lauren and Andrew Conway, Garin and Carolyn Jones, Alex Jones, and Kailynn Jones.; and nine great-grandchildren, Jacob Hutter, Riley Hutter, Madelyn MacKenzie, Mason Hutter, Emmeline Conway, Ava Molidor, Harper MacKenzie, Zachary Hutter, and Claire Hutter; as well as her nieces and nephews. Jean will also be remembered for breaking a major barrier for women in the Oak Lawn Police Department in 1963. Her duties were varied, but she won statewide recognition when she dispatched over 40 hours straight for Oak Lawn when a killer tornado hit in 1967. Her experiences with the Oak Lawn Police Department were always a source of pride. Visitation is from 11 a.m. -8p.m. on Thursday, May 22, at Floral Haven Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 23, at 1:00 PM at First United Methodist Church of Broken Arrow.Donations may be made to Broken Arrow Neighbors or The Parkinson’s Foundation.
