Dr. V.K. Curtis, Jr.'s Obituary
V.K. Curtis, Jr., was born February 19, 1929 in Pocasset, Oklahoma, the son of Leva and V.K. Curtis, Sr. V.K. went to be with our Lord on Friday, November 19, 2010 in Tulsa Oklahoma at the age of 81. He was preceded in death by his mother and father and brother, Carl Curtis of Midwest City, Oklahoma Memorial services were held on November 23, 2010, at the First Baptist Church in Broken Arrow. The Reverend Nick Garland, First Baptist Church of Broken Arrow, and Tony Kennedy, President of the Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children officiated at the memorial service. V.K. graduated from Midwest City High School in 1947. He attended Oklahoma Baptist University and received a Bachelor of Science Degree. He later earned his Master of Education degree and Doctor of Education degree from the University of Oklahoma. V.K. worked in the field of education serving as teacher, assistant superintendent and superintendent at various public school districts. V.K. later worked in higher education and served as the Vice-President for Business Affairs at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma, from 1974-1990. He retired from Northwestern in 1990. He was active in local Baptist church serving in various leadership positions. He also held numerous leadership positions in the Oklahoma Association of College and University Business Officers and the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Foundation. After his retirement, V.K. became actively involved with the Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children (OBHC). He served as a trustee and advisor to OBHC from 1995 to the present. His work with the OBHC became his calling and passion during the latter part of his life. V.K. is survived by his wife of 55 years Doris Bivins Curtis of Broken Arrow, daughter Stephanie Curtis of Oklahoma City, son Paul Curtis and daughter-in-law Kelly Smith Curtis of Bartlesville, and grandchildren Meghan Curtis and Sean Curtis of Bartlesville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children, Oklahoma Baptist University, and the First Baptist Church of Broken Arrow.
