Voncille Stegelman's Obituary
Voncille McGee was born in Katie, Oklahoma on March 18, 1932, to Ed and Virgie McGee. Her friends and family called her Von. She was an only child but grew up with four cousins who lived in a neighboring town and were like sisters to her throughout her entire life. Von grew up on the family farm and played basketball throughout high school and college, she continued to love watching the sport for the remainder of her life. She attended college and received degrees in Home Economics and English.
After graduating from college, she moved to Grenola, Kansas where she taught Home Ec and English. Grenola was also where she would meet and fall in love with her future husband, Jack Stegelman who she married on June 28, 1958 in Elmore City, Oklahoma. They enjoyed a loving marriage until Jack’s passing in June of 2022 after 64 years of marriage.
Von was a devoted housewife who loved to sew and cook. She was a wonderful mother to her children Michael and Lisa. She participated in kids sports and always helped at school functions as a PTA mom where she would always bring baked goods to the kids when they had school parties. Von and Jack also spent many hours on the road visiting their children and grandchildren located throughout the United States. They also made many trips to Arizona to visit Jack’s sister Rita and her family and would plan many vacations together with them.
Voncille is survived by her sister-in-law Rita, her son Michael along with his wife Sherri and their children Christopher, Megan, Georgia, and Brinkley Anne Stegelman, her daughter Lisa along with her husband Ron and her children Quinn and Quaid Stegelman as well as a great-grandchild Finn. She was a long-time devoted member of Eastwood Baptist Church in Tulsa where she continued to attend virtual services from her bedroom, at her home she shared with her daughter until her passing.
The visitation will be 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM with the funeral to follow at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 6th, 2023 at Floral Haven Rose Chapel.
