Voncille (Phillips) ThompsonA resident of Tulsa since 1942, Voncille (Phillips) Thompson passed away Friday, August 12, 2016, surrounded by loving family members. She was 96. Born in Springer, Oklahoma to W.O. and Beadie Phillips, Voncille grew up in nearby Ardmore together with her younger brother, Howard. In 1942 she married Gorman Thompson of Wynnewood, Oklahoma. When WWII began she lived for a time in Oakland and Seattle, in loving support of her Navy husband, assigned to the North Pacific during the WWII years. She is survived by her brother Howard of Virginia Beach, Virginia; three children: Kenneth of Del Rio, Texas; Don (Janice) of Tulsa; and Glenda (Tony) Carr of Tulsa. She was blessed with two grand daughters, Ashley (Brady) Moore and Lauren (Colin) Higbee; and three great-grandchildren, Kinley, Sadie and Breckin; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Voncille trusted in and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior when she was 11 years old and was baptized at the First Orthodox Baptist Church, Ardmore, Oklahoma. During their years in Tulsa, Voncille and Gorman served faithfully and were members of Nogales Avenue Baptist Church, followed by Calvary Baptist, and most recently Brookside Baptist Church. The family would like to thank the staffs of the Arbors Assisted Living Center, Autumn Leaves Memory Care, and Physician’s Choice Hospice of their loving care and support. Visitation will be 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Monday, August 15th, Floral Haven Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Floral Haven in Broken Arrow; a Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, August 16th, Floral Haven Rose Chapel.
