Vonnie E. "Eddie" Morefield's Obituary
Eddie passed peacefully from this life the late evening of January 7th, 2014. His wife Daisy, his Daughter Mary, his Son-in-Law Bill and his Grandson Phillip were with him.In 1917, at age 3, Eddie was abandoned by his parents and adopted by a family in the hills of Mountain City, TN. At age 9, as a result of his step-father’s abuse, Eddie ran away from home. At 10, he was working in a coal mine. At 11, he hopped the trains and hobo’d for the next 6 years. In 1934, as a U.S. Army soldier, he was honored to guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. He next served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and then worked in California shipyards and on WPA projects until a serious fall. In 1954, he came to Oklahoma where he found refuge at the Tulsa John 3:16 Mission where he worked as a cook. It was here he met and fell in love with his wife of 60 years, Daisy Irene Coulson.Eddie was preceded in death by his father, Jake Morefield, mother, Mary Poe Morefield, his Brothers, Bart T. Morefield and Frank Morefield; his Nephew, Billy Jack Morefield; and his Uncle, Lloyd Poe.Eddie is survived by his wife Daisy Irene Coulson-Morefield; One Daughter, Mary Frances Morefield-Allen and her husband William Patrick Allen; One Step-Child, Billy Joe Colson and his wife Nita Marie; Two Grandsons, David McMahan and his wife Ruby and William Phillip Allen and his wife Shantana; Five Great Grandchildren Tyler Levi McMahan, Elisha McMahan-Huff , Treyson McMahan, Edie Shay Allen, and Amelia Minh Allen; and two Step-Great Grandchildren, David Lee and Joseph William Colson.Memorials may be made in Eddie’s name to the Alliance for Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation c/o Gail Jackson, 9055 North 77th East Avenue, Owasso, OK 74055.
