Voylia May Bowen's Obituary
Voylia May O'Brien Bowen passed away on August 3, 2010 at the home of her Daughter Lia Bowen Franson at the age of 86, with the assistance of Good Shepard Hospice. Voylia was born on May 7, 1924 in Humboldt, Allen County, Kansas to George Higginbotham O'Brien [1884 to 1966] and Hazel Beatrice Johnston O'Brien [1895 to 1972]. Voylia was the youngest of 4 and is survived by her sister Phyllis Dorothy O'Brien Harclerode of Dickenson Texas. Voylia's husband Rex L. Bowen preceded her November 27, 2009. Voylia is survived by her son Rex Lee Bowen II of Owasso, OK; George Frederick Bowen of Maplewood, MN; and Voylia Bea (Lia) Bowen Franson, of Tulsa, OK. She is also survived by 2 grandsons and 2 granddaughters, and 3 1/2 great grand sons, all who will miss her. Voylia graduated from Iola High School, attended Allen County Junior College, and one semester at Kansas University. She worked as a teletype operator for Delta Airlines before marrying Rex on June 16, 1945 in Birmingham Alabama. They lived in Harlingen Texas and later moved to Cushing Ok and in 1999 moved to Moran Kansas. She served many years in various small churches in central eastern Oklahoma part time with her husband. She also served in Chapter 317 of the order of the Eastern Star in Drumright Oklahoma. She was a member of the First United Methodist church of Moran Kansas. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be given in her name to the First Methodist Church of Moran, Kansas 66755. Interment will be on 10:00 AM, September 4, 2010 at the Moran south cemetery.
