Wallace Eugene Mattox's Obituary
Wallace Eugene Mattox (Gene) was born on January 8, 1930 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma, to Anderson Mattox and Linnie Mae Johnson. He departed this Earth to the loving arms of God on July 22, 2017 at 4:45 p.m., from Broken Arrow, OklahomaGene gave his heart to God at age 19 and after attending seminary served as a minister for forty-five years. He pastured seven churches and then became a guest Evangelist for the remainder of his ministry. That calling was at the heart of who he was throughout his life. He was a lifelong student and at some point, memorized the entire Bible. Until age diminished his memory, he could easily quote scripture and verse for any referenced content.Later in life, he was also a Painter by trade and worked for the Broken Arrow School System for seventeen years. He then began a private painting business and continued working well into his 70s. He was one of the hardest working people you ever met.Gene was a loving and devoted husband and father. He had a kind, gentle spirit and although he dealt with health issues the last few years of life, he never failed to see the beauty and kindness around him. He was a jokester at heart and loved to make people smile. He was much loved by family and friends and will be missed.Gene is survived by his wife Maxine, of the home; three children, Darrell Mattox and wife Virginia of Troutville, Virginia, Suhni Mattox of Los Angeles, California and Star Mattox of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; three step children, Marlene Flaherty of Bixby, Oklahoma, Rita Reece and husband Calvin of Southwest City, Missouri, Ken Holt and wife Linda of Wagoner, Oklahoma; sister Silvia Wofford of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; twenty grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.He was predeceased by daughter Terese, both parents and two sisters Emma Lou and Mary Catherine.Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday Aug 5, 2017 at Arrow Heights Baptist Church 3201 S Elm Place, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
