Walter "Charlie" Keegan Jr.'s Obituary
Walter Charles Keegan Jr, 77, of Jenks, OK passed on May 1, 2026 with his wife by his side. He was better known as "Charlie" to all those who loved him. Charlie was born on October 18, 1948 in Sayre, PA. He was the son of the late Walter C and Charlotte (McDonald) Keegan and stepson of Ann Keegan.
Charlie was an Athens Bulldog and reminisced often of his years in the "valley". He graduated from Athens (PA) High School in 1966. After graduation at the young age of 17, he enlisted into the US Air Force (with his Dad's signature) and served as a Medic during the Vietnam War. After his release in Sept 1970 from Sheppard Air Force Base, he enrolled in Midwestern University in Wichita Falls, TX and graduated in May 1975. He was the first in his family to graduate from college. Charlie was very much a patriot and proudly flew the American flag.
After graduation, he worked as a Human Resource Manager for Siemens in Wichita Falls, TX, Raleigh, NC and Arlington, TX until his retirement in 2005. Charlie then started a second career at American Gypsum in Duke, OK in 2006 as Human Resource Manager and Safety Manager retiring in Jan 2017. Charlie had an incredible work ethic. His retirement from both companies gave him a career that spanned over 40 years.
On June 7, 2013, Charlie married Deanna Montgomery and upon retirement in 2017, they made their home in Jenks, OK. After retiring for the second time, he decided to work part time in the Pro Shop at Meadowbrook Country Club in Tulsa.
Charlie absolutely loved his time there. He loved the people he worked with and the members. He often remarked "every day is a good day if you are playing golf". His generous conversationalist skills really shined and came in handy. He loved golf even though his health kept him from playing in his later years. He is a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Tulsa. Charlie loved sports. He especially loved the Dallas Cowboys since 1966, while in basic training at Lackland Air Force Base; San Antonio. Anyone who knew him, could tell you stories of his commitment to the "Cowboys". Fall weekends were spent watching as many football games as possible.
He was an avid fisherman. He also played golf, croquet, ping pong and bowled.
Charlie loved to play the guitar and sing. He had a band in high school and was the lead singer. He continued with his singing to the delight of his family. He was also a great listener and storyteller. Charlie made many friends along the way and had such a joyful spirit. All were better for having walked through his life.
Charlie loved his family and his fur babies, particularly Bogey Mac. He was kind and compassionate, especially to animals and children. He adored the time he spent with his daughters. His favorite was spending time at the beach with them
His absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him. We will all cherish the many wonderful memories and laughter we experienced with him.
