Miss you very much! What I wouldn't give to hear you answer the phone and reply, "Well, I thought your finger was broke!" 💕
I was his daughter-in-law for awhile, when I was married to Steve. I loved to play Gin with Walt. He even let me win once in a while. The we would go have ice cream. He was a wonderful man. My prayer go out to his family.
I remember so clearly our great conversation a few Thanksgivings ago. Walt had so many wonderful stories to share. He was so kind and generous with his time. They just don't make men like Walt anymore. So sad. Our condolences go out to his entire family. Joe and Audrey Heun
April 21, 2013I am Doris McKenzie Mayes, Walt's second wife and the mother of two sons. Besides a driller, Walt was a war veteran, world traveller, story teller. Now it is my turn to tell a story of him. One time during an ice storm after I had picked up the boys from school, I was slipping and sliding at 2lst and Lewis. My car was stranded in a busy intersection. When I looked in the rear view mirror there was Walt coming to the rescue in his Mercedes. "I knew you would be out here fish-tailing around," he commented after he got us safely home. He was everyone's champion.
April 20,2013 my name is Francis L. Weedon,Yukon,OK and i just found about Walts death at noon today. I have been keeping up some with him through a dear friend, Bill Swart in Oilton, OK and he is the one that called me. The last time was over 5 years ago as i lost my wife on the 7th MAY 2008 after we had just had our 61st anaversey in April. We were always very glad to see Walt when he visited the seis crew when in OK, TX or Montana. Let me back up some when i first met Walt in 1952 in Ardmore,OK as i just started to work as a surveyor for Exploration Consultants Corp. and George Reed was my boss and a partner with Walt in Ace Hi Drilling who had a drilling rig on with this company.and the compnay i party cheif on until we moved to Penn in July of 1963. I always respected and admired him for his talant and help at any time i needed. One time and i knew he would get gripe's on most of his field calls so i called him in Tulsa and said every thing was coing very well and his crew was doing a great job. That set him back some. This is a very few things we shared and i wanted to pass this along.I will be keeping you in my prayers, i know what it is to loose a loved one and a friend.
