Walter Darel Scott's Obituary
Darel Scott, born January 5, 1948 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma passed away on December 1, 2014 at his home in Catoosa, Oklahoma. A long-time resident of Catoosa, Darel was a veteran of the United States Navy. He served his country from 1967 to 1970 aboard the USS Coral Sea and was a lifelong supporter of programs that benefit underserved veterans. In 1972, he graduated from Nebraska Vocational & Technical School with a degree in computer science. He returned to his home state of Oklahoma in 1975, whereupon he declared himself back in “God’s country” and vowed never to leave again. He married his beloved wife, Marty Scott on June 27, 1992 at his mother’s home in Checotah, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on September 19, 2012. Darel was best known for his generosity, love of family and friends and his sense of humor. He was a man of few words, but the words he spoke tended to carry weight. Whether it was a few simple words of encouragement or one of his entertaining “tall tales”, he always seemed to know the right thing to say and the right time to say it. Darel was a very generous soul who often donated his time and resources to those in need. One of his favorite causes was the Llano Crawfish Open which benefits several charities in the surrounding area. You could find him every year in Llano, Texas cooking and serving jambalaya alongside his brother Donnie and family. Darel had a deep appreciation for nature, spending much of his free time outdoors. He also enjoyed hunting although in recent years he did most of his shooting with a camera rather than a gun. He was deeply devoted to his family and friends. Darel Scott is preceded in death by his wife, Marty Scott and his father Walter “Allen” Scott. He is survived by his mother Denise Leonard; son Allen Scott and wife Cecy; daughter Kristina Hembree and husband Scott Bruno; daughter Lyndee Scott; son Michael Scott; grandchildren Samantha Hembree, Gage DeWald, Taylor Meitner, Tom Hembree & Jason Scott; siblings Andrea Palomba and Donnie Scott and wife Karen; nieces and nephews Ryan Palomba and wife Diane, Joshua Scott, Brianna Woolsey and husband Christopher, Nathaniel Scott and wife Jennifer and Patrick Scott and numerous friends. Memorial services will be held at 12:30pm, Friday, December 5, 2014 at Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church Checotah Food Pantry at www.fumcchecotah.org
