Hicks, Wanda Sue's Obituary
Wanda Sue Hicks
February 4, 1937 - November 5, 2025
Wanda Sue Hicks, a beloved mother, sister, and friend, peacefully passed away at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on November 5, 2025, at the age of 88. Born in Dallas, Texas, on February 4, 1937, to James and Dessie Wheat, Sue was a vibrant spirit who embraced life with joy and adventure. She is now reunited with her twin brother, Walter Lee Wheat (d. 1994), and is survived by her cherished sister, Eunice Wheat Futrell.
Sue spent her formative years in the lively community of Mesquite, Texas, where she graduated from Mesquite High School. Her pursuit of higher education led her to Baylor University for two years, after which she married Joe W. Hipp in 1957. Together, they raised three wonderful children: Joseph Lee Hipp of San Antonio, Texas; Dessie Denise Zitzevancih of Phoenix, Arizona; and Carilyn Sue Hipp of San Antonio, Texas. Following her divorce, Sue found love again with Russell R. Hicks of Midland, Texas, with whom she welcomed her youngest son, Charles Wheat Hicks of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Throughout her life, Sue exemplified resilience and curiosity, making memories across various states and countries, including England and Iran. She also spent cherished years in Santa Fe, New Mexico, before settling back in Texas and ultimately, Oklahoma.
A true renaissance woman, Sue delighted in a wide range of interests. She had a passion for singing, theater, and modeling, and was an avid bridge player. Family gatherings were filled with laughter as she enjoyed board and card games, captivating everyone with her storytelling and clever wordplay that her family fondly dubbed “Wheaties.” Sue's keen eye for interior design, combined with her infectious sense of humor and warmth, touched the lives of all who knew her.
A memorial service to celebrate Sue's remarkable life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at Floral Haven Funeral Home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Family and friends are invited to share in remembering Sue and the joy she brought into their lives. In her honor, let us carry forward her legacy of love, laughter, and adventure.
