Wanda Lee Peevy-Zahler's Obituary
Wanda Lee (Shields) Peevy-Zahler was born September 3, 1934 to Raymond and Wilma (Pack) Shields in Pope County, AR. She graduated and was valedictorian of the 1952 class of Russellville High School. Wanda attended Arkansas Tech University for two years and received an Associate of Science degree. While attending tech, she met her husband George H. Peevy. They moved to Kingsville, TX where he served in the United States Navy Civil Engineering Corp where they began their family. In 1964, they moved to Tulsa where George joined his brothers as a partner in Peevy Construction Co.
She was the mother of three children: Mitch, Gregg and Lisa. Wanda always did her best along with her husband in raising them by providing a loving and stable household with a Christian upbringing. She always believed in them, supported them, and pushed them to achieve. To have such a mother was truly a blessing from the Lord. She was married to her husband George Peevy for over 50 years. He went to be with the Lord April 21, 2005. Her son, Mitch Peevy went to be with the Lord April 15, 2015. She was widowed for 13 years.
She was recently married to George Zahler on July 7, 2018. George was a long-time family friend and widower. His former wife of over 59 years, Patricia, went to be with the Lord March 8, 2016. George is an architect in Tulsa and has been working for over 60 years.
Wanda was a stay at home mother who worked in PTA at Hoover, Whitney, and Hale while her children were students. She taught Sunday school for 50 years, Vacation Bible School, Ladies Classes in South Lakewood Baptist Church, and served for several years at church clerk at Florence Street Baptist Church, Broken Arrow, OK.
She enjoyed visiting family, traveling, playing dominoes, and participating in Bible Study Fellowship. She recently took an Alaskan cruise with her new husband. This had been a dream of hers for many years. She was a dedicated, loving, generous, and caring person. Wanda will be dearly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
