Warren Burdine's Obituary
Warren Layne Burdine, 84 of Jenks, Oklahoma passed from this life on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 in Tulsa with family by his side. He was born August 3, 1935 in Little Rock, Arkansas to his parents, Walter Talmadge Burdine and Evelyn Francis Voyles Burdine. He grew up primarily in Fayetteville, Arkansas but also spent some time in Oklahoma as his father’s job with the Civil Service took them to various locations. His father passed away when Warren was 16 and so he became the Man of the House and helped support his family. He graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1953.Warren continued his education at Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi and lived with his Uncle Bill and Aunt Inez. While in school he worked with them at the Sterlings Department store where he saw the most beautiful girl he had ever seen working at the counter. He of course tried to charm her with his smile and humor. It worked and he married the love of his life, Wilda Lemay Bingham on March 18, 1955 in Skene, Mississippi and they have shared in over 64 beautiful years together.Warren continued working at Sterlings and finished two years at Delta State, while he and Wilda made a home together and had two children, Vicki and Bill. As his family was growing he knew he needed more income so he found a job with Phillips Petroleum and moved his family to Tulsa, Oklahoma. He worked with Phillips for 10 years and during that time he and Wilda had two more kids Leslie and Lori.Warren left his job with Phillips to complete his education at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. So, with 4 little kids in tow, he moved his family to Fayetteville where they lived in old Army Barracks. He went to school and worked the night shift at a Phillips gas station in Springdale, Arkansas. He was able graduate in two years with his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1965.After graduation, Warren moved his family back to Tulsa, Oklahoma where he worked for North American Rockwell as an Accountant for 10 years.In 1967 he moved his family to Owasso, Oklahoma which was home for many years. He served faithfully as a Deacon, Treasurer, and Janitor and in many other capacities at Central Baptist Church. All his children grew up and graduated from Owasso High School.In 1977 Warren grew tired of being an Accountant at Rockwell, so he quit his job, bought a silver Step Van and began selling Wholesale Women’s Clothes to small stores in the little towns throughout Oklahoma. He, along with his partners Mike Belt and Joe Jameson grew their business, Classic Apparel, and were selling Wholesale Women’s Clothing to stores throughout the country.In 1983, Warren and Wilda moved to Tulsa and then Broken Arrow to be closer to his company which was located in Broken Arrow. In 1987, Warren sold his portion of the business to his partners and semi-retired. He continued working various jobs including selling watches and the driving bus for the Union School District and then finally delivering buses to schools throughout the country.Warren and Wilda moved to Jenks, Oklahoma in 2008 to be closer to their daughter Leslie and help with getting their great grandchildren to and from school. They enjoyed so much spending time with their grandchildren and great grandchildren who call them Ma B and Pa B.Throughout his life, Warren was a faithful follower of Jesus and lived out his love for Jesus by serving in church and loving his family. He never met a stranger, loved to laugh and tell stories, he became an instant goofball whenever a child was around and cared deeply for his family and friends. Throughout his time in Oklahoma, he was a member of Golden Hills in Turley, Central Baptist in Owasso, South Tulsa Baptist Church in Tulsa and then finally First Baptist Church of Jenks.Warren is survived by his loving wife, Wilda Burdine of the home; one son, Bill Burdine of Owasso, Oklahoma; two daughters, Leslie Goodwin and her husband Casey of Jenks, Oklahoma and Lori Coburn and her husband Jeff of Sacramento, California; one son-in-law Rodney Gallagher of Bixby, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, James Newell, Nick Newell, Katy Gallagher, Mecca Grandle, Jenny Lane and Jared Goodwin; twelve great-grandchildren, Season Grandle, Rone Grandle, Nola Grandle, Jayden Lane, Samantha Goodwin, Hannah Goodwin, Aubrey Goodwin, Elizabeth Goodwin, Kasey Goodwin, Damien Gallagher, Cooper Newell, Harper Newell ; two great-great-grandchildren, Asher and Leighann; and much loved extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Evelyn Burdine; daughter, Vicki Gallagher; and two sisters, Sue Pearce and Avanel Burdine.Visitation will be held from 3 – 7p.m. on Sunday, September 1, 2019 at Floral Haven Funeral Home. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at First Baptist Church, Jenks, Oklahoma. Burial will be private.
