Wayford Carlton Hinton's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Wayford Carlton Hinton
Wayford Carlton Hinton of Tulsa, OK left this earthly home for his eternal home of heaven on January 30th, 2024. Wayford was born on April 21st, 1941, in Lutts, Tennessee to Clark L. Hinton and Clura Lucille Reaves Hinton.
From childhood, Wayford possessed a strong work ethic, exemplifying discipline and determination, achieving every milestone he set his mind to through his own unwavering efforts. He was a leader in every sense of the word and embodied that role fully throughout his life.
As fate would have it, Wayford and Sue married on October 14th, 1964. They shared the belief and comfort in knowing that it was God that had blessed them endlessly throughout their 59 years together. During their early years together in Blytheville, AR, Wayford was an active member of the local Jaycees where he was involved in community service. Wayford often told Sue his favorite time in all of this was seeing the joy brought to the children from his role as Santa Claus.
From 1963 to 1965, Wayford fulfilled one of his greatest honors, serving in the US Army. His most selfless act was being deployed to Vietnam. While in Vietnam, his assignment was that of personal escort and driver to his battalion’s lieutenant. He also was honored to escort Robert McNamara, Secretary of Defense, during his duty.
After returning to civilian life, Wayford began his lifetime career in truck driving, logging thousands and thousands of miles. Those closest to him know him to be a Rand McNally savant. Unfortunately, after a traumatic driving accident in 1989, Wayford’s work life was briefly derailed. Fortunately, this accident also led him to The Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges. At the Center he made numerous friends and touched many lives by sharing and teaching the art of stained glass.
His passion for traversing the open road, coupled with his strong work ethic, allowed him to reach his goal, that of working, adventuring and providing for his family until his final days.
In it all, Wayford’s greatest love was for God, his country and his family. He lived his life helping others, sharing love, and sharing kindness across the miles. In his final days, he was surrounded by his family. Wayford wanted all to know that he had lived a great life, that he was happy, and that he would see us all again in Heaven. He will be missed deeply by so many.
Wayford was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Geraldine and his brothers James and Charles. He is survived by his loving wife Sue and his 3 children, Carl (Jaquetta) of Collinsville, OK, Tammy (Frank) of Tulsa, OK, and Tabitha (Bill) of Broken Arrow, OK; 9 grandchildren, Doug Dickinson of Dallas, TX, Dawn Rush (Steve) of Collinsville, OK, Joseph Admire (Gage) of Plano, TX, Brooke Chupp (Jesse) of Chouteau, OK, Hilary Crawford (Drew) of Adair, OK, Beau Admire (Kayla) of Tulsa, OK, Adam Dees of Tulsa, OK, Heidi Admire of Tulsa, OK and Jake Admire of Tulsa, OK; 11 great grandchildren, Ally Dickinson, Kaden, Talan, and Adelyn Rush, Hunter, Easton, Harmony and River Admire, Carter Crawford and Jordan and Amelia Alexander. He is also survived by his brother Waylon Hinton of Blytheville, AR. He would also want all to know that he had many nieces, nephews, and cousins that he cherished.
