Willard George Koch's Obituary
Willard George Koch, a man whose life was defined by devotion, passion, and hard work, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2025, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 80. Born on February 28, 1945, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, to George Wesley Koch and Grace Katherine (Meints) Koch, Willard lived a full and remarkable life of love, service, and dedication.
On August 28, 1964, Willard married the love of his life, Linda Kaye Koch (Fugate), beginning a partnership that spanned 60 years. Willard retired early from AT&T at the age of 53 to care for Linda when she lost her sight, exemplifying his unwavering commitment and love. To their children, he was the steadfast rock who cared for Linda, while she raised their family. Linda lovingly called him her "rock and caregiver," and their enduring bond serves as a testament to true love.
Willard was known for his semi-dry sense of humor and tough exterior, which concealed a heart full of love for his family. Though he expressed his love in his own unique way, his dedication and pride in his family were unmistakable. A natural-born manager, Willard’s knack for leadership extended beyond his career, earning him the affectionate title of a “bit of a control freak.” A spirited conversationalist, he relished lively discussions on topics he was passionate about and ensured he stayed informed on local politics.
Willard's career included proud service with Western Bell and AT&T. Even more so, he took great pride in his service to the U.S. Army and his involvement with the Boy Scouts of America. Willard’s commitment to community continued as he served as a reserve officer for Duncan and Okmulgee, Oklahoma. His Harley group also held a special place in his heart, reflecting his adventurous spirit and connection to those around him.
His family remembers him as the epitome of a patriarch—passionate and hardworking in everything he did. His legacy is carried on by his loving wife, Linda Kaye Koch; his children, Susan I. Schaedler (Michael) and George W. Koch (April); his grandchildren, Christina K. Zang (Francis) and Phillip P. Sandell (Katie), along with four bonus grandchildren; and ten cherished great-grandchildren. Willard is also survived by his brother, Lawrence H. Koch (Linda), who, along with a host of family and friends, will forever remember him with love and admiration.
Willard George Koch’s life was a testament to dedication, love, and service. He leaves behind a family that will continue to honor his memory and a community that will deeply miss his steadfast presence. May he rest in peace.
