William James "Bill" Fahey, Jr.'s Obituary
William James “Bill” Fahey, Jr., 76, passed away on April 7, 2014. He was born in Syracuse, NY on August 7, 1937 to Margaret and William Fahey as the oldest of five children. He was a graduate of Central High School in Syracuse and then served in the US Navy. After a four-year tour in the Mediterranean, Bill attended St. Edward’s University, in Austin, and graduated in 1968. It was in Austin where he met Mary Jane Bechtold and proposed to her on the steps at St. Ed’s. The two were married and began a wonderful life together on August 16, 1968. Bill was a wonderful husband, father, “pop-pop”, friend to those who knew him and a friendly face to those who didn’t. He loved his family and was supportive of his wife’s endeavors to complete college and become an educator. Bill’s involvement in his children’s lives included attendance at many sporting events, camping trips, model rocket launches and the epic cross-country driving treks to visit family along the Eastern seaboard which made many incredible memories for everyone. He had a passion for airplanes and applied that passion and knowledge to building models, which he shared with his family. Bill and Mary Jane moved to Tulsa from Houston in 1969 while Bill worked for Gulf Oil. He then went to work for Telex, where he worked for many years until eventually he retired from WorldCom in 2001. Bill was always quick to engage a new face and all will miss his caring ways and smiling eyes. Bill was preceded in death by his younger brother Michael. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary Jane, their sons William J. Fahey, III of Chagrin Falls, OH, and Patrick S. Fahey of Lowell, AR, granddaughters, Mary R. Fahey and Allison M. Fahey of Chagrin Falls, OH, sister Judith Hall of Fulton, NY, and brothers Thomas Fahey of Syracuse, NY and Terrence Fahey of Virginia Beach, VA. The family would like to express their thanks to the staff of St. John’s Hospital for their care and concern for Bill over the many years. The family will receive visitors at a viewing on Thursday, April 10, 2014 from 4:00 – 6:00PM at Floral Haven Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 11, 2014 at 1:00 PM in the chapel at St. Pius X, Tulsa, OK. Graveside service will follow at Floral Haven Cemetery, Broken Arrow, OK.
