William Boss Jones' Obituary
WILLIAM BOSS JONES William “Bill” Boss Jones, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed from this world to join his Lord and Savior on June 3, 2015. Bill was born on October 29, 1925 to Sally and Howard Jones in Mangum, OK. He graduated from Warner High School, Warner, OK in 1942. Bill proudly served in the U.S. Navy in World War II while his older brother, Howard, served in the U.S. Army. Bill earned his undergraduate degree from The University of North Carolina, followed by a graduate degree from The Harvard School of Business Administration. He obtained his Law Degree from The University of Oklahoma. Bill married his lifelong love, Janene Trammell, on October 1, 1948 at the Wheeling Avenue Christian Church in a ceremony presided by Brother Jim Rutherford. Bill and Janene were blessed with two children: William Jeffrey and Jennifer. Bill is the co-founder of the Jones, Gotcher & Bogan, P.C. law firm. The association first began when Bill Jones, on the recommendation of Thomas Brett, retired U.S. District Judge, partnered with Jack R. Givens in March of 1964. Bill was an active member of the American Bar Association, Oklahoma Bar Association and Tulsa County Bar Association, having served each organization in various capacities. He was a prominent real estate and zoning attorney and remained active in the practice of law until just a few years ago – well into his mid-80’s. He handled many noteworthy real estate transactions in the area, including the administration of the real estate holdings and the estate of his client and personal friend, Ramon King, one of Tulsa’s most prominent real estate developers. Bill served on the Board of Directors for American Bank & Trust Company, Tulsa National Bank and many other companies within the City of Tulsa, elsewhere in the state of Oklahoma and in adjacent states. He was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church for over 50 years, joining when the congregation was first meeting in Key Elementary School. Over the decades, Bill served on the church’s Board of Trustees and provided legal services for Asbury’s various growth and relocation projects. Bill and Janene loved sports and friendly, spirited competition. Both were avid golfers at The Oaks Country Club where Bill was affectionately known as “Loopy” by his foursome friends for his unorthodox, but enthusiastic swing. Bill enjoyed basketball, having played through his high school years, and he supported the programs of both Oral Roberts University and The University of Tulsa. And he avidly followed University of Oklahoma football, vowing that he was ever, “Sooner born and Sooner bred….” Bill is survived by his two children, Jennifer Points (and husband, John) and Jeff Jones (and wife, Tereasa); six grandchildren, Lt. Alex Points (and wife, Angellia), Andy Points, Emily Points, Jeanna Lichtenberger (and husband, James), Matt Jones (and wife, Kristin), Jessica Bergmann (and husband, J.J.) and seven great-grandchildren. Family visitation will be Sunday, June 7th at Floral Haven Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be conducted by Dr. Tom Harrison and Reverend Richard Read at the Asbury Methodist Church Chapel on Monday, June 8th at 11:00 AM. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, any donations be made in Bill’s memory to Asbury United Methodist Church.
