Patton is my cousin and needless to say I was shocked when I read of his passing. He loved nature and he was continually learning. He loved all who were around him to learn as well and he was constantly teaching.
I met Patton when we were starting 4th grade in Muskogee. One of the first things I remember, spending a lot of time at his house, and in the woods behind his house when we'd all go exploring, was his love of animals and nature. In fact the first time he showed me his pet raccoon, it was when I had just bought a chameleon for $.25 at Woolworths and wore it proudly on my shirt affixed by a safety pin and a string to Patton's house to show him. Patton asked me to hold his raccoon, but before I could get hold of him, that raccoon had sucked my chameleon right off the string and swallowed him in 3 seconds… Patton said " it's the food chain". He was a groomsman at my wedding too, and although I hadn't seen him in 30 years, I will miss him. Was a good guy.
Patton had an insatiable thurst for knowledge and was one of the most interesting people I've ever known.
I liked him a lot nd I would never think of him that way he will be in all of my thoughts and prayers.
Our hearts go out to you Fite family. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
