William "Bill" Allen Sitler's Obituary
William Allen Sitler was born November 1, 1929, to Lawrence and Grace (Toot) Sitler in
Alliance Ohio. He passed away on October 16, 2024, at the age of 94. Known to all as Bill (or Sweet Ole Bill), He graduated from High School in Canton Ohio and entered the US Army upon graduation. He served in the Signal Corp as a photography instructor and continued being an enthusiastic photographer for his entire life. After discharge from the Army, Bill attended Kent State University, graduating with a degree in Political Science. While at Kent State, he met Sally Ann Mantle, who became his wife on April 17, 1954. Bill and Sally were married for 62 years until Sally’s death in 2016. Bill and Sally are survived by two children, Nancy and Mark (Jacquelyn), four grandchildren, Eric (Eliana), David (NhuAng), Katherine and Frankie and two great grandchildren, Carmella, Ursula.
Bill worked as a product salesman his entire career selling everything from Westinghouse home appliances, and Prefabricated Steel building to Home Log Cabin Kits. Bill enjoyed drawing plans for buildings and homes.
Bill and Sally moved several times during their long marriage, From Ohio to California, Georgia to Oklahoma. During many of these years, they enjoyed square dancing, attending a number of National Square Dance conventions. Later, they spent many years traveling around the country, visiting all presidential libraries among other interests. They also traveled to Europe and Israel. Bill loved to plan their trips to see every sight possible. Bill enjoyed writing trip journals family Christmas letters and letters to the editor. He spent extensive time during his retirement researching the Declaration of Independence. Bill and Sally were long time members of Harvard Avenue Christian Church, where they were active members of the Disciples Class. Both were also active Master Gardeners. Bill had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to meet and talk with strangers. He would always try to find common acquaintances or places he shared with his newfound friends.
Bill will be interned in Alliance Ohio at a later date.
