Wilma Carter Meyers' Obituary
Wilma was called home to our Lord on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at the age of 88 after a brave battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born January 11, 1934, to William Roberts and Mary Winifred Beattie Carter in Murphysboro, IL
Wilma and her first husband, Bill Meyers met in their hometown and moved to Tulsa in the 1950s, along with her mom and sister. They started their family and raised 3 children.
Mom was musically gifted at an early age. She began playing for the First Lutheran Church in her hometown at the age of 12. She found her church home again at the First Lutheran Church in Tulsa where she played the organ for over 20 years. She played for many weddings, funerals, and church performances over the years. She went to work, after raising her family, as an Executive Assistant at Pepsi Cola. She retired from Pepsi after 25 years.
Mom’s first marriage ended, and she later met the love of her life, David Sibole. They shared their love of music, the outdoors, and adventure. They could be seen boating, canoeing, and camping together all across America. They were always up for any type of adventure. Mom was the happiest when she was outdoors with the sun shining on her face, even in her later years. She could be seen in her neighborhood walking and riding her bike daily, saying hello to all her friends and neighbors.
She had a presence that would light up any room with her infectious personality and made friends wherever she went. She always uplifted the underdog and had compassion for animals.
Mom’s family was her greatest source of accomplishment and pride. She loved her grandchildren with all of her heart, and she lit up in their presence. She and Dave were involved in their grandchildren’s lives always offering encouragement and support, making them feel they were the most valued gift to them. They were ever-present at birthdays, sporting events, and special occasions.
Dave showed his selfless commitment to mother by taking excellent care of her and keeping her in her home as her condition declined. He even continued getting her outside for a daily drive where she would find great happiness. There are not enough words to express our gratitude for this amazing act of love and compassion.
We give many thanks for the 88 years we had with our beautiful mom. We know she is now playing the organ in heaven for Jesus and singing in the angel’s choir.
Wilma was preceded in passing by her parents, William Carter and Mary Winnefred Carter (Beattie); her sister, Roberta Henson; her grandson, Cody Sampson; and her nephew, Douglass Henson.
Wilma is survived by her life partner, David A. Sibole; her son, Scott Meyers; her daughter, Mari Sampson and her husband, Brian; her daughter, Leslie Meyers; her grandchildren, Lindsay Meyers, Chase Sampson and his wife, Sara, Kate Sampson, and Holland Relander; her great-grandchildren, Ella and Miles; her brother, Richard Carter and his wife, Jeannean; her nephew, John Richard Carter and numerous other family members and friends.
