Wilma Lee Rankin's Obituary
Wilma Lee Rankin, better known to her family and friends as Lee, was born to Elmer and Opha (Reynolds) Carney on September 1, 1933 in Boxley, Arkansas. She passed from this life at the age of 92 years, 8 months on May 12, 2026 peacefully in her home surrounded by her family.
Early life moved her around often with her parents, but Lee spent her later childhood days growing up in Collinsville, OK. This is where, at the age of 18, Lee was set up on a blind date with a young man who’s name was John Rankin. Soon after their courtship, they ran off to Arkansas on January 21st, 1952 and were married, or as Lee would fondly say “auctioned off” by the justice of the peace. On October 4th of that same year, they welcomed their only child, a baby girl named Pam. They raised Pam in Tulsa, OK. and lived there until 1983 when they moved to their forever home in Inola, OK.
Lee was the woman behind the man, encouraging John to follow his dreams and from this, J & L Trucking was born and continued until John finally retired at the age of 80.
Lee came from a family of God-loving people and like her mother and brother preached the gospel and at one point, pastored her own church. Lee and her brother Larry held many revivals, working together to preach God's word. Her faith was unmatched and was the praying force behind her family.
Her one hobby was bowling, and Lee excelled at that, like she did at anything she set her mind to. She then took on a more challenging role at the age of 73, babysitting her great-grandson and eventually her great-granddaughter, a challenge and a blessing that most will not have the chance to experience.
Lee is survived by her daughter, Pam Gregory and husband Gerald Gregory; granddaughter, Angie George and husband Dwayne George; great-grandson, Jayson Purtle and wife Zoe Purtle; great-granddaughter, Addie Purtle; and great great-grandson (son of Jayson and Zoe) Jack Purtle and 13 nieces and nephews.
Lee is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years John Rankin; her parents, Elmer and Reverend Opha Carney; Brother, Reverend Larry Carney.
Lee lived boldly, loved deeply and left a legacy of faith, strength and family. She will be profoundly missed.
