Zachary James Moody's Obituary
Zachary Moody
1994 – 2026
Zachary Moody, age 31, unexpectedly passed away on May 2, 2026, at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Born on June 6, 1994, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, to Natasha Moody and Mark Rodriguez, Zachary was a proud graduate of Union High School in Tulsa.
Zachary’s legacy lives on through his three children. Kaige James Moody (b. 2013) and daughter Keeleigh Kay Moody (b. 2016). He was also a dedicated husband to his wife, Courtni. Together, Zachary and Courtni celebrated the birth of their daughter, Penelope James Moody, in January 2025—a final, beautiful blessing in his life.
A dedicated professional, Zachary worked as a heavy equipment operator for the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 9, based in Denver, Colorado. He was known for his skill and bravery, notably working on the Vail Pass Auxiliary Lanes project—one of Colorado’s most challenging stretches of highway—operating at elevations of 11,000 feet. Zachary had a genuine passion for his trade; he was certified in nearly every piece of machinery and had recently achieved his certification as a crane operator with the Union. An avid outdoorsman, Zachary loved duck hunting with his wife and children and maintained an extensive collection of specialized gear and shotguns; he even featured several mallard ducks as taxidermy mounts in his home. He was also a talented cook who loved grilling steaks, chicken, and many other types of food.
Beyond his professional life, Zachary loved to travel and cherished every moment spent with his family. His children and family meant the world to him, and he will always be remembered for his impeccable laugh and a smile that could brighten any room.
Zachary is survived by his wife, Courtni, and their daughter, Penelope; his son, Kaige, and daughter, Keeleigh; his mother and father, Natasha and Bradley Gates; and his brothers, Jeremy and (partner Tre), Isaac, Jacob, and Daniel Moody. He also leaves behind his uncle, Josh Moody, and significant other, Brandi; cousins Myah Moody and Michael Moody (wife Savanna); his grandfather, Larry Moody and (wife); and a host of extended family members on both sides who loved and cared for him deeply.
He was preceded in death by his father, Mark Rodriguez; his grandmother, Donna Moody; his uncle, Chad Moody; step-grandfather, John Cowan; and great-grandparents Mildred and Joe Ewing.
Zachary touched our hearts in ways that words can never fully explain. His memory will live on forever in our hearts and in the beautiful faces of his children.
