Zola Mae Ramey's Obituary
Zola Mae Ramey, 87, of Tulsa, Oklahoma went to be with the Lord on Feb. 26, 2019 after a bout with flu and pneumonia. Zola was born in Weleetka, Oklahoma on January 27th, 1932 to William T. and Bessie E. Dillion. She married Donald L. Ramey on May 29th, 1952. They remained married until his death on August 22, 1969 and she never remarried. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and beloved member of Carbondale Assembly of God. Many would tell you she was the strongest, kindest person you’d ever want to know. Zola said her deepest values were her religion, honesty, kindness, compassion and a strong work ethic. She worked in the Edison school cafeteria while her children were in grade school and went on to work another 31 years for Ed Cohen Real Estate Company.Mema loved watching her grandchildren play sports, baseball and softball most of all. She went to all the games she could squeeze in and, with as many as 6 kids all playing at the same time, that meant a lot of games. She used a yearly calendar to keep track of all her grandkids’ games, each color-coded with a different color highlighter. She would routinely make it to 3 games a day and sometimes a dozen in a week. She loved to keep score at the games, even if she wasn’t the official scorekeeper that day. If anyone needed to know what was going on, they knew they could ask Mema. When the grandchildren all graduated, she started to travel. She loved to go on cruises with her best friends, especially Colleen (cole-een) Pickens. On Sunday afternoons after church she and the ladies would go out to eat, oh how she loved to eat, especially sweets. She really enjoyed watching her TV shows, mainly Perry Mason and later NCIS with Brandi. She said she would never have a dog but when she and Brandi got one, Mema loved him all the same. Her kids and grandkids were her life! Ask any kid on the Westside and they knew her by “Mema.” Mema was a woman of many talents. She was an electrician, mechanic, homemaker, an excellent carpenter, a roofer, and a beautiful seamstress. If she couldn’t fix something she never gave up until the task was done. She was an angel on Earth and now she’s our guardian angel in Heaven. Her greatest wish for the future was that all her family would love and serve the Lord. She is preceded in death by her parents William and Bessie Dillion; husband Don Ramey; brothers E.J., Bill, and Vernon Dillion; and son Glenn Ramey. She is survived by her brother Haskell Dillion and his wife Christine; Son, Gary Ramey and his wife Retha; Daughter Rhonda Taber and her husband Darrel; Grandchildren Billy and Brent Ramey, Allen and Jennifer Ramey, and Brandi, Justin, and Renee Rettke; Great grandchildren Jordan Rettke, Bailey Ramey, Leah, Landyn, Aspen, and Koleson Ramey; Kennedy and Carter Rettke.Viewing will be held Monday, March 4th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Floral Haven Funeral Home.Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Carbondale Assembly of God Church in Tulsa.
