Zylpha Marilyn Montgomery's Obituary
Zypha Marilyn Montgomery (Edwards) passed away peacefully on June 2, 2016 at her home in Tulsa, OK. She was born to Amy and John H. Edwards on April 12, 1923 in Ponca City, OK. Marilyn graduated from Will Rogers High School in Tulsa, and earned a B.A. in Art and Education from the University of Tulsa. She completed advanced studies through the Colorado Fine Arts Center, Oklahoma University, and the University of Colorado. Marilyn received her Masters Degree in Art from Colorado State College, Greeley, CO. She worked twenty-three years in the Tulsa Public Schools as an art and science teacher at Burbank Elementary, Lindsey Elementary, Bell Junior High, and Riverview Elementary. In addition, Marilyn provided private and group art instruction in Tulsa, Apache Junction, AZ and Harlington, TX. Her work was exhibited at Philbrook Museum, Triangle Art Gallery, and the Brookside Library in Tulsa. Preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, William R. Montgomery Junior. Survived by her daughter Kathryn Terry, Kathryn’s husband Thomas A. Schmitt, son Keith W. Montgomery, daughter-in-law Charlotte M. Montgomery, and grandchildren Savannah Montgomery and Patrick W. Terry. A memorial tea and art exhibit will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2016 between 1:00 and 3:30 PM in the Bodean Restaurant banquet room at 3376 E. 51st St in Tulsa, OK. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Restore Hope Ministries at 2960 Charles Page Blvd., Tulsa OK 74127. Donations may also be made to Fish Friends Scholarships at the Oklahoma Aquarium, www.okaquarium.org The family wishes to express sincere thanks to St. Francis Hospice Care for their excellent support and services.
