A. Wesley Skidgel's Obituary
A. Wes Skidgel, 73, passed away the evening of November 12, 2016 at his home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Wes was born on March 8, 1943, in Glencoe, Oklahoma to Hazel and AB Skidgel. He was raised in the town of Cleveland, along with his siblings Dee, Bobby and Nancy. During his formative years of schooling in Cleveland Elementary, Junior and High School, he would achieve a record of perfect attendance that would go on to exemplify his character of always showing up in work, sports and all aspects of his life. A legendary athlete as a Cleveland Tiger, both in basketball and football, it would be the Latter with 1961, All-Conference, All-State and little All-American, that garnered him the attention of the Big 8. He chose OU under the Tuteledge of Bud Wilkerson, he went on to be a standout player on both sides of the field until being drafted by the Minnesota Vikings out of an Orange Bowl Game in 1965. He went on to play Canadian League Ball for the Blue Bombers and enjoyed back to back CFL Championships in 1967 and 1968 with Orlando Panthers.Wes attacked the workforce with the same zeal and dedication often working two jobs, he found his niche in data processing, where he worked 30 plus years, most notably for Shell Oil, where in a second act he would meet the love of his life, Mary Wilson, who he would marry May 3, 1991, now deceased. He is survived by Mark, Sterling, Chance, Jodie, Jimmy and Jake and six grandchildren. He would go on to pass his passion for achievement to new crops of aspiring athletes. He was a lifetime O Club Member, Wes and Mary shared a love of RVing, travel, camping, fishing, Grand Lake and were beloved members of the Elks Lodge, where we invite you to attend a Celebration of his life on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at Lodge #2673, 10266 S 241st E Ave Broken Arrow.
