Kay Hunter Anderson
I'm Jamie's sister, Alan's sister-in-law, Kay Hunter Anderson. My best memory of Alan.... man, it's hard to choose because he always made me laugh. Whether it was Reverend Lonzo or some other character (Looney Tunes), Alan had me in stitches most every time we were together. But, the memory that comes to mind first was Christmas Dinner at mom's house around 1972 (if memory serves me).
Such a big deal to have Alan and Jamie back from Germany, Mom pulled out all the china, crystal and fancy silver. With Christmas dinner on the table, prayers of thanks offered, we began our holiday feast. Not a minute in, when no one was expecting it amongst the formal ware and special food, Alan lets out his wild animal sounds – chimpanzees, elephants, wild exotic birds, etc. I laughed till I cried on my turkey.
If I can share an "exciting" memory... While visiting Jamie & Alan in Tahlequah, Alan took us all - adults plus five small children - on a pleasant Sunday afternoon drive after church. What a nice way to put the kids to sleep, while the parents enjoyed the scenery. It was dreamy until a hornet flew in the van window. I really don't remember much after that outside a lot of screaming and commotion. Thankfully, our chauffeur kept his wits about him and we all returned home safely.
I can easily imagine Alan telling jokes in Heaven right now. When it thunders, that'll be the heavens laughing, and the rain – tears of joy.
