Dr. and Reverend Charles Armen Tryon, Sr.'s Obituary
Rev. Charles A. Tryon, Ph.D. Following an extended illness, Dr. Charles Armen Tryon, Sr. departed this world on Tuesday evening, June 5th at 81 years of age. Dr. Tryon was a minister, educator and missionary. Dr. Tryon was born in Houston, Texas in 1930. In his 67 years of Christian ministry, Dr. Tryon pastored churches in Colorado, Iowa and Oklahoma. He served as a missionary in the Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Guam, Saipan, Japan and Hawaii. During that time, he opened Bible schools for training pastors and laymen. Dr. Tryon also founded the International Association of Bible Fellowship Centers and Asia Orient Missions. He was instrumental in creating the first Braille New Testament for blind Philippine students. Following retirement from active missionary service, Dr. Tryon developed a 4-year college Christian curriculum in use at over 30 overseas mission locations. Those materials are being used in the Aldersgate Distance Education program at God's Bible School to train Christian workers across the United States who cannot live on campus. As a result of Dr. Tryon's ministry, there are 150 self-supporting churches located in Southeast Asia with a dozen national missionaries helping to open areas where the gospel has not reached. Until this most recent illness, Dr. Tryon continued to develop a 4 year accredited internet college education program. Dr. Tryon is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lottie, of Tulsa and his sons, Charles, Jr. of Broken Arrow, Henry of Bixby, Mark of Turley, Tom of Kansas City and Steve of Arlington, TX. Dr. Tryon has 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted for Dr. Tryon at 10:00 on Monday at Floral Haven in Broken Arrow.
