Asa Verneal (Chief) Forbes, 92 of Okmulgee, Oklahoma passed from this life on Thursday, February 27, 2020 in Semmes, Alabama. He was born July 31, 1927 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma to his parents, Asa Forbes and Mary Jane Gabbard Forbes. He married Jeanette Gann Forbes on April 3, 1948 and they shared in over 46 years before her passing in 1994.
Chief is survived by a son, Bobby Forbes (Karen), of Okmulgee, Oklahoma; one daughter, Shelly Hickman; a sister, Mildred Wright and nine grandchildren; Ashley Knox, Mandy Blankenship, Amber Saltz, Neal Forbes, Chris Helton, Chad Helton, Tony Quartuccio, Caleb Hickman, and Joseph Hickman, and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Michael Everett Forbes (Karla); his parents, Asa and Mary Jane Forbes; his wife, Jeanette Forbes; two brothers, James Forbes and Everett Forbes, and six sisters; Elsie Patrick, Alma Harless, Verba Medlin, Maudie Bevard, Wanda Fletcher and Fleeta Ripley.
Chief was a veteran and served in WWII. He was a member of the International Operating Engineers Union, the Masons and the Akdar Shriners of Tulsa, Oklahoma. His favorite hobby was golfing. Chief was dedicated to his passion of working in the pipeline industry. He worked his last job at the age of 90 years old.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 20, 2020 at the Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel, 6500 S 129th E Ave, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. There will be a luncheon in the Floral Haven Family Center following the service.
Memorial Donations may be made to Chief's favorite charity, the Shriners Childrens Hospital.
