Betty Fay Anderes' Obituary
Betty Fay Anderes March 18, 1943 – March 5, 2026
Betty Fay Anderes, a woman of warmth, style, and remarkable spirit, passed away on March 5, 2026, at the age of 82. Born on March 18, 1943, to Thelma Ruby Jones and Earl Dean, Betty lived a life as full and colorful as the fashions she so dearly loved.
Betty grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she graduated from Thomas Edison High School in 1961. At just 18 years old, she married Dillard Isaac Dugan — known to all as "Ike" — a young man of 19 she met while he was working at the service station on the corner of Peoria and Quincy. The couple welcomed their son, Lonnie Dement Dugan, in 1962. Though Betty and Ike parted ways in 1965, they remained friends throughout their lives. Betty later married Michael Anderes in 1971, a relationship born of shared adventures in the great outdoors and a mutual love of dogs — including Brutus, their champion Doberman Pinscher. She proudly carried the Anderes name for the rest of her life.
Betty was a woman of many talents and tireless dedication. For 23 years, she served as the sole office manager at Service Welding — a true one-woman operation, handling every aspect of the business and standing as the only woman ever to work there. When the business closed, Betty turned her caring nature toward others, becoming a nursing assistant at St. John's Hospital and later providing private duty nursing. Along the way, she also found time to work at the Velvet Closet, a fitting occupation for a woman with an admitted love of beautiful clothing. Betty was known for her effortless elegance. Her eye for shoes, handbags, and jewelry was legendary among those who knew her.
Beyond fashion, Betty was a woman of extraordinary talents. She was a master seamstress who could sew a man's suit and dress shirts so perfectly they looked store-bought. She was an avid antique collector, happiest when combing flea markets for those special, one-of-a-kind finds. And she was a devoted animal lover, sharing her home and heart with a cherished parade of pets over the years — Brutus, Daisy, Elvis, Precious, Ida, Sweetie, Spaghetti, and more.
In her later years, one of Betty's greatest joys was her grandchildren. When her son Lonnie married Sherri Lynn Carlton in 1995, Betty embraced Sherri's daughter Chelsea Lynn Goudelock as her own. Chelsea always called Lonnie "Dad," and she was folded into the family. Lonnie and Sherri also welcomed two sons, Luke Anthony and Joel Andrew. Betty poured herself into their lives with a grandmotherly love. She cared for Luke and Joel during the week while Lonnie and Sherri worked to provide a better life for their children. She was the kind of grandmother who got down on the floor and played, fully present and devoted. Betty was fully cherished in return.
Betty is survived by her son, Lonnie Dugan; former daughter-in-law, Sherri Carlton Daley; grandchildren Chelsea Goudelock, Luke Dugan, and Joel Dugan; great-grandchildren Benjamin, Parker, Lincoln, and Emma; her sister, Jane Earlene Martin; her niece, Anna Maria Martin; her grandnieces Julianna and Gracie Gordon; her cousins David Lee Jones, Linda Marie Jones and Julie Diane Strauss.
Betty Anderes was a woman who dressed with flair, worked with grit, loved with her whole heart, and left the world a little more beautiful for having been in it. She will be deeply missed.
