Billie Jean Morton's Obituary
Billie Jean Morton, 79, of Anchorage, Alaska died peacefully on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 in Tulsa, Oklahoma after a battle with lung cancer. She was born August 11, 1931 in the Big Bend community near Ralston, Oklahoma. She is predeceased by her parents, William Eugene Rainey and Raucie Estancia (Snow) Rainey, and by her husband, James Walter Morton. Billie Jean attended Oklahoma A&M, now Oklahoma State University, and afterward found her life's work and love in Alaska. She was married to Jim in 1961 and worked as a civil engineer for the Municipality of Anchorage for many years. She is survived by her sister, Marilyn Rainey Brager of Garland, Texas, one nephew, James Craig Firestone of Duncanville, Texas, two nieces, Suzan Firestone Brawner of Dover, Oklahoma and Lisa Firestone Feagins of Tulsa, Oklahoma, as well as by many loving relatives in the Big Bend community and a host of friends in Anchorage. A private family memorial will be held at Riverside Cemetery in the Big Bend and a public memorial service will be held in Anchorage. Interment will be in the Columbarium Wall at Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery. Donations in her honor may be made to Saint Simeon's Episcopal Home in Tulsa or to the Anchorage Public Library.
