Bob Warner Reavis Sr.'s Obituary
Bob W. Reavis Sr. stepped into eternity September 14th, 2016 at 5:30 Wednesday morning. Born in Liberty Mounds, Oklahoma on October 28th, 1930 at the beginning of the Great Depression, Bob spent his early childhood on a farm with seven brothers and four sisters. The family moved to Turley, Oklahoma at the outbreak of WWII. He attended Cherokee School where he met his future wife and business partner Barbara M. Smith. Together with Barbara’s intelligence and Bob’s unmatched work ethic they built two successful businesses. Bob went to work at age fourteen in the painting trade serving his apprenticeship. He became a masterful painter and later a partner in Cates & Reavis Painting Company. Upon the death of Mr. Cates, Bob and Barbara became enormously successful in the boom days of the 1960’s. By the middle 1970’s Bob began building his first of two commercial retail shopping centers. The first was located at 41st and Sheridan, the second and final shopping center is located at the northeast corner of 71st & Memorial Dr. Bob had a passion for restoring old homes. In the summer of 1978 he orchestrated the restoration of the Skelly Mansion in Tulsa. During his painting career he worked on almost every high rise building that makes up Tulsa’s unique skyline and many of the oil mansions that remain in Tulsa’s historical Maple Ridge District. Bob had a love/hate relationship with the painting business but he absolutely loved his Woodland Corner Shopping Center. It meant no more cold winter days, unbearably hot summers, aggravating wind, snow, ice or rain. Bob finally had an office to go to that didn’t smell like paint. He was a member of the Nifty Fifty Afterglow Fraternity Club. He loved NASCAR and believed Franklin D. Roosevelt was still President of the United States. Bob is preceded in death by all of his siblings and his great grandson Aiden Jackson McCaffrey. He leaves behind his wife and lifelong business partner of sixty-six years Barbara Reavis of the home, his dog Snoopy, his eldest son Bob W.
