Gene D. Hopkins' Obituary
Gene D. Hopkins, age 78 of Coalgate, Oklahoma (formerly of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma) passed from this life on February 12, 2012 in McAlester, Oklahoma. He was born on September 14, 1933 in Mountainair, New Mexico to William Marion and Viola Hamilton Owen Hopkins. Gene attended and graduated from school in Decatur, Arkansas. He married Edith Berneice (Howard) Hopkins on December 13, 1952, having been married for over 50 years before she preceded him in death. Gene worked as a steel worker for Jorgensen Steel before retiring and was an active member of the Church of Christ. He married Doris J. Lemons on January 29, 2005 in Coalgate, Oklahoma. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, William and Viola Hopkins; sisters, Cynthia Oldner Guinn and Rena Atkinson; brothers, Orville Lee Hopkins and Jeff Frank Hopkins. He is survived by his stepchildren, Gayla Williams and her husband Jim of Coalgate, Oklahoma, Paul Guinn and his wife Donna of Coalgate, Oklahoma; 4 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; sister, Viola Smith and her husband Marion of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Rose Ball and her husband George of Pryor, Oklahoma; numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on February 16, 2012 at 12:30 pm in the Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
