Born on September 22, 1953, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, David was the beloved son of Robert and Bobbie Blue. From a young age, David showed an extraordinary artistic spark. He taught himself to play the drums, beginning with tin cans as a child—a humble start that blossomed into a lifelong love for rhythm and sound. His musical talents would eventually be recognized not only across the United States but also internationally, earning him admiration as a gifted artist.
David’s artistry extended far beyond music. He was a talented horticulturist with a keen eye for beauty and design, transforming gardens into living masterpieces. His love for nature and dedication to cultivating green spaces played a pivotal role in the early development of the Broken Arrow Parks and Recreation Department, where his vision helped shape the community’s outdoor spaces for generations to enjoy and admire.
He dedicated 27 years of service to the City of Broken Arrow, beginning in 1989. During his tenure, he spent a decade as a horticulturalist and later became the city’s founding events coordinator. His visionary leadership led to the creation of the Broken Arrow Farmers Market and he played a key role in the development of Veterans Park. Among his many accomplishments, his proudest was launching the Chalk It Up Art Festival, a beloved annual event that continues to bring the community together. He also contributed to other cultural initiatives, including Wine, Eats and Easels and the city's public art program, leaving a lasting legacy of creativity and civic pride.
Whether through the beat of a drum or the bloom of a flower, David touched lives with his creativity, warmth, and unwavering commitment to his craft. He will be remembered not only for his talents but for the joy and inspiration he brought to those around him. David’s legacy will live on and he will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
