Representative David R. Brumbaugh's Obituary
David Brumbaugh, 56 of Broken Arrow, OK passed from this life on Saturday, April 15, 2017 in Tulsa, OK. He was born in Abington, PA on December 2, 1960. David was a loving husband and father, a businessman and a true citizen legislator. Brumbaugh was elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives in 2010, proudly served District 76, located in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and was elected Republican Majority Caucus Chairman in 2014 and re-elected in 2016. David Brumbaugh was married to Shelley Edwards Brumbaugh. They recently celebrated their 19th anniversary on April 4th and were blessed with two daughters, Abigail, 17 and Hannah, 14. Brumbaugh was an ordained deacon, former chairman of the deacon board, and Sunday School teacher at Tulsa Bible Church. Brumbaugh attended Belmont Abbey College, earning his BA in Political Science with a minor in Theology. He attended Pacific Western University where he earned an MBA in Commercial and Industrial Economies. In 2005, Brumbaugh founded DRB Industries LLC, a leading company in the electric power industry, where he was owner and President. Brumbaugh also served as a consultant for Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) in Palo Alto, California a chief research industry leader in electric power worldwide.Brumbaugh served in the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army, in a Rapid Deployment Air Assault Infantry Unit, and was decorated with the Army Achievement Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. He had served in many local committees and organizations, including the Legislative and Public Affairs Committee; the Transportation, Infrastructure, and Communications Committee; and the Government Relations Division with the Broken Arrow Chamber of Commerce. As a Tulsa City / County Library Commissioner, Brumbaugh served on the Budget and Finance Committee and the Physical Facilities Committee. He had been a Precinct Chairman of the Tulsa County Republican Party since 2009 and served on the Executive Committee and was also a delegate to the County, State Convention, and was elected as a 2016 National Delegate to the RNC for District 1. Brumbaugh was also a member of the American Legion Post 110. Brumbaugh was named the Broken Arrow Elected Official of the Year for 2013 by the Broken Arrow Chamber of Commerce and had received recognition from the Oklahoma Conservative PAC as the 2011 Conservative Freshman of the Year for 2011 and 100% Conservative Index ratings in 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016. In 2015 and 2016 the Oklahoma Conservative PAC declared Brumbaugh their “Conservative Representative of the Year” and the Oklahoma Association of Realtors awarded him with their 2015 “Legislator of the Year” designation. He was also personally awarded the 2015 Oklahoma Eagle Forum Council Award by Phyllis Schlafly, the 2015 Conservative Excellence Award from The Conservative Union, and received a 100% rating from the Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs. Brumbaugh was honored to serve on the Energy Council as a member on behalf of the Oklahoma House of Representatives. Beginning November, 2014 Brumbaugh was appointed to serve on the Energy Council Executive Committee representing Canada, the United States and South America. Brumbaugh’s passion was spending time with his family and traveling the world. As a child, family time in Canada was a big part of his life with his brothers, dad, and grandpa. David shared his love of drawing with Abigail and she inherited his artistic talent. Hannah campaigned with her dad and enjoyed spending time at the Capitol. His wife, Shelley, was his rock. David Brumbaugh was preceded in death by his father Frank “Sam” Brumbaugh, mother-in-law Elada Edwards, and sister-in-law Emily Hayes. David is survived by his wife Shelley of the home and two daughters Abigail and Hannah. David is also survived by his mother Catherine Diane Whitfield of Limerick, PA and step-mother Martha Brumbaugh of Pen Argyl, PA, four brothers, Sam Brumbaugh, Jr., husband of Wendy, of Perkasie, PA; twin brother Stephen Brumbaugh, of Silver Spring, MD; Michael Brumbaugh of Philadelphia, PA; Scott Brumbaugh, husband of Christine, of Pen Argyl, PA; and one sister, Mary Glaser, wife of Rich, of Westport, CT. He is also survived by his father-in-law J.W. Edwards of Wagoner, OK, brother-in-law Chris Edwards, husband of Julia of Wagoner, OK and brother-in-law Andy Hayes of Muskogee, OK. He is also survived by many special nieces and nephews.Services are scheduled for 1 PM Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Tulsa Bible Church, 5838 S. Sheridan Road, Tulsa, OK. Graveside military burial will immediately follow at Floral Haven Funeral Home, 6500 S 129th E Ave, Broken Arrow, OK. On Thursday, April 20, 2017 Rep Brumbaugh will lie in state at the Oklahoma State Capitol, 2300 N. Lincoln Blvd, Oklahoma City from 10 AM to 2 PM on the 2nd floor rotunda. Viewing will be available at Floral Haven Funeral Home, Broken Arrow, OK beginning at 10 AM, Friday, April 21, 2017 with the family available to receive visitors from 6 PM – 8 Friday evening.
