Many memories from high school
It makes one pause when you learn of the passing of someone you once knew. David was my neighbor and childhood friend until he he joined the Air Force. He really wanted to go into the Navy like his brother, but he wasn’t going to be denied, he was going to serve his country. Not to may of us at the time we’re interested in a tour of Vietnam (or maybe I should say we were terrified) especially with the lottery draft at the time. Little did I know at the time the courage David had. A few couple of years later he returned and we caught up and he shared some of his exploits and then I return to college and pursued a career outside Oklahoma. That was the last time I spoke with David. We are all blessed with those in our pass because not only the effluence they may have had, but the character they demonstrated. Although I was saddened to read of Davids passing I’m pleased to know he continued in his life to make an impact in his community. I know there’s a special place in heaven for him.
Seeing that picture of David reminds me of the book and movie "We were soldiers once... and young". Thanks for sharing that picture of him as well as his story since I didn't know the "young David", until now.
David was a very generous and giving soul. He was always searching for ways to help others. He will be missed!
