David Glenn Combes' Obituary
David Glenn Combes, 73, passed away peacefully with his family holding his hand at Clarehouse in Tulsa, Oklahoma on February 4, 2024.
David was born January 3, 1951 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and became a naturalized United States citizen at the age of 17. He loved his new country and patriotically served this nation in the Air Force in country in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. David was known for his capabilities to get a job well done and achieved the rank of Sergeant.
David was preceded in death by his parents William Graham “Bill” and Marjorie E. (Harrison) Combes. He is survived by his brother William Stephen “Steve” Combes (Katherine), sister Miriam Jean (Combes) Barker (Charles), nephews Matthew “Matt” Aaron Combes and Thomas Andrew Combes, and niece, Aislinn Rae Combes, cousins Rex Shelton, Charles Shelton, and Susan (Shelton) Dickson.
David has been a member of Tulsa’s VFW #577 (Veterans of Foreign Wars) and Wagoner, OK’s DAV (Disabled American Veteran.) After being discharged, one job he enjoyed was working for the Tulsa Public Schools for a number of years before starting his years of volunteer service.
David was a selfless, highly-respected volunteer at the Tulsa Police Department who went above and beyond, spending countless hours, over 14 years, serving across several divisions of the TPD. David was recently honored by Police Chief Wendell Franklin by receiving the Tulsa Police Chief’s Award for his dedication. He was one of the first civilian to receive this award outside the department. In addition, David was honored by Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum proclaiming January 25th as “David Combes Day” for his service to the City of Tulsa. David was extremely touched by these recognitions.
David and his family are eternally grateful for his numerous friends and adopted family at TPD - including, but not limited to - his close friend of over 50 years, Kirk Jones, Chuck Haywood, Lt. Todd Taylor, Lance Eberle, Shawn Kite, Lori Mullin, Gina Kepler, Mark Kraft, Jim and Donna Lee, Tim Ward, Eric Dalgleish, Tim Hunter, Chris Vargas, Trea Irby, Janice Whalen, and Mike & Fay Shackle.
The family wishes to acknowledge and thank Clarehouse for their kind and professional care of David and the family during his last days. Special thanks to David’s caregivers Crystal Caldwell of Millennium Hospice and Kalisha Taylor of 1st Aid Healthcare.
