David Gray's Obituary
David Lawrence Gray was born March 31, 1963, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Gerald Ray Gray and Rhea Colleen Gray. He was welcomed by older brothers, Michael and Brian. David arrived in heaven on May 30, 2025, the first time he ever arrived somewhere early. David was a member of the last graduating class of Mason High School where he was a member of the swim team. David attended Oklahoma State University.
David was passionate about all things water – swimming, sailing, and boating. David enjoyed photography, grilling meat, collecting cars and messaging friends and family. David was a member of the Thunderbird Sailing Club serving as Rear Commodore.
David served the Norman YMCA since the early 1990’s, working with countless swimmers and inspiring a love for aquatics in generations of youth. He truly lit up around the kids as they transitioned from kids who wouldn’t drown to “lil racers” in Y fun meets and in youth triathlons. He was a gentle goofy soul, he never pushed the kids and instead they had a chance to grow hungry for more. His passion for the sport was just contagious.
David was the fun Uncle to his cherished nephew and niece, Scott and Courtney. Every time he came to visit, he brought along some unique and fun toy. He was always fully engaged with them and enjoyed entertaining them.
David was predeceased by his grandparents, parents, and brother Brian. He leaves behind his brother Michael (Lesa), nephew Scott Gray (June), niece Courtney Gray Barnard (Huntor), great nieces and nephews Amelia Gray, Thomas Gray, Lincoln Barnard and Lucy Barnard, and a host of family, friends and former students.
Visitation will be held at Floral Haven Funeral Home in Broken Arrow Tuesday, June 24, 2025 from 5-7 pm. Services will be held at 3 pm June 25, 2025 at Floral Haven Main Chapel And at the Norman YMCA at 3 pm on June 26, 2025. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Norman YMCA, in memory of David Gray or to a charity of your choice.
