Denise Alene McGee's Obituary
Denise Alene McGee, age 63 of Tulsa, OK, passed away on Dec. 11th, 2016.She was born on September 8th, 1953 to the late Luther Russell Campbell and Mary Beatrice Campbell in Hixson, Tennessee.Denise Alene was the youngest of three and as the only daughter, she was a daddy’s girl. She loved watching her father coach softball and eventually met her husband, Joe Alan, at one of her high school softball games. He saw her walking across the parking lot and always said that it was love at first sight. They started as high school sweethearts and just celebrated 45 years of marriage. Denise and Joe eventually moved from east Tennessee to Oklahoma to attend Rhema Bible School and they have been in ministry together for 35 years. During that time, she worked in children’s ministry, christian education, and was the Vice President of Joe McGee Ministries. Over those years, Denise and Joe traveled to hundreds of cities teaching on marriage and family.“Her life was consumed with other people. She loved people and never met a stranger,” said Joe. “Whether it was after a service, on a plane or even in a bathroom, she was always ready to engage and help someone.”Her proudest accomplishment was raising her six children. She taught them to love traveling and trying new things, and centered many of her adventures around her children. She routinely planned trips such as loading eight people in an RV to drive to the Grand Canyon, walking the entirety of Washington DC in two days, or flying 11 hours to tour Israel.“She was always taking out the map to see what was close by, so we could drive and see something else,” said Sarah, her eldest. “And before we got back home she was planning the next adventure.”Many times she would surprise her children with a spur-of the-moment drive to see some place she read about or something even as simple as taking a new road home. She instilled this adventurous spirit in her children as well as the importance of obeying God and serving others. She never watched the same movie twice, would always correct you if you got facts wrong in a story, and usually laughed so hard at her own jokes that she could hardly tell them. She was preceded in death by her father, Luther Campbell and mother, Mary Beatrice Campbell, both of Hixson, TN.She is survived by her husband, Joe McGee of Tulsa, OK; her children, Sarah Ramsey of Tulsa, OK, Jessica Schroeder (husband, Matt Schroeder) of Tulsa, OK, Corrie McGee of Tulsa, OK, Tessa Cole (husband, Mark Cole) of Tulsa, OK, Lauren McGee of Tulsa, OK; John McGee of Tulsa, OK; three grandchildren, Augustus James Schroeder, Duke McGee Schroeder, and another one on the way; her brother, James Campbell of Hixson, TN, and brother, Gary (wife, Donna) Campbell of Hixson, TN, as well as nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the Denise McGee Legacy Fund has been established to carry on the work that she was passionate about including spreading the gospel and helping families with tangible resources.
