I have a lot of em WOW. back n the day you had to be 16 to enter the pits or have a Parent sign for ya at 15 which we did Dad signed the release. It was my first year gettin n the pits a rite of passage n 78. I was pumped! Dad knew me too well, he told me to jus watch, you'll learn more by watching than asking a bunch of questions. He knew I had known Ray all my life n was such a fan. they didn't call him the "GURU" for nuthin Ray like "Geo Geo" was a gifted chassis I wanted to gleen everything I could from the men I respected. He didn't want me to pester Ray n knew that's exactly what I would do. another one from 75 we were at Dewey America racin the 5 car. Ray was there n the Hillenburg car (Ray was drivin for Plunkett at Tulsa so he drove the 55 everywhere else that year). Ray was leading the A when a red came out. they stopped all the cars on the frontstretch. mind you I was only 12 at the time so I ran to the fence and started yellin "RAY, RAY" to get his attention. at that time I really didn't understand "Race face". I kept yellin till Ray finally looked over with a STEELY EYED look I gave him a thumbs up an he just stared no emotion. I went opps, felt bout two inches tall. that was 45 years ago n I've never done it since..RIP "Capt Nice" thanks for the memories from a child then teenager till now. Ray you cannot fathom how many lives you've touched n changed..
