DK... Chief Keef... Dairy Dad. Man, I can’t explain how much I miss you. I think of you daily, I still scroll through our last text messages when we exchanged Randy Savage memes.

You were pushing me to get into tech, you kept saying ‘let me teach you, dawg. You’ve got the brain for this.’ Well, with your voice in my head I started at a Full Stack Software Engineering school in January. I am nearly finished with my Foundations curriculum and moving into the next phase of my education.

I can’t say how many times something has happened that I thought ‘Dustin would love this’ or ‘I wish I could text him and tell him’ or ‘Only DK would think this was as funny as I do.’

I miss you, man. I think about you daily, I know you’re eating french onion dip and cracking jokes, you’re a king.

Dustin was a great leader during his time with Whole Foods. He effortlessly maintained an air of excitement and motivation around him in the workplace. This was an insanely contagious quality, one of which I admired then, and still do to this day. As a friend of mine mentioned in conversation, Dustin never forgot your name. He never walked past without sparking up a genuine conversation, even if only for a brief moment. Dustin knew how to fill the work environment with fun, and, as an all-inclusive leader, everybody was invited to join him. I worked with Dustin for only a few years, but in those years the impact he had on those around him could be easily recognized. I have yet to cross paths with such an interesting, engaging, grounding, genuine, and energizing personality as his. My favorite and most vivid memory of Dustin was when I walked into a back area at Whole Foods, and stumbled upon Dustin twerking to the song Royals, by Lorde. He exclaimed something along the lines of, “Betcha didn’t think I’d know anything about Lorde, did ya buddy!?” He continued his one-man talent show for the entirety of the song. Hahaha. Priceless. That song still keeps that moment fresh in my memory. My wish for Dustin’s family, friends, those he loved and those who loved him, is that you are surrounded by love, and the beautiful memories fill your hearts with peace. We are so very sad to hear of Dustin’s passing. What comforts us is the thought that Dustin is in heaven with the almighty Lord and for that… we can all rejoice!!! A gentle and compassionate man, Dustin lived for the good of many and we feel blessed to have known him. Our loving thoughts and prayers are with Jennifer and Dustin’s family and friends. Jennifer, Jim and I are heartbroken at learning of Dustin’s passing. We wrap our minds and arms around you in a deep, powerful hug and prayer to God at what must seem the most daunting of voids one can experience in life. Dustin actually gave me a small gift just now. I went to animal rescue to donate and saw the sweetest poly-dactyl (Hemingway) kitten! I want to adopt her! She can be my Nubian Princess and Toonces can have a sister! His gift is a remembrance to have heart, kindness, tolerance, and that good ole, gosh darn, furry cuteness is nothing but complete blissful joy! And that it all needs to be embraced and shared often. Our deepest sympathy, Jennifer, to you and yours, and to Dustin’s family, in this difficult time. We. heart. you.

We are deeply saddened to hear of the loss of Dustin. He had a special gift of bringing joy to everyone around him. He was very caring, sincere, inspiring, always positive and motivating; he could amazingly lighten the mood in stressful situations. My husband, Joe, and I both worked with Dustin at Akins for years, and then Joe moved on to work with Dustin at Whole Foods. An hour before we heard of Dustin’s passing we were gardening together and sharing happy memories we had with him. We speak of him often; he was truly special. We are blessed to have known him. We will always remember how he made us laugh and smile. We honored Dustin Keith by sending a gift to the Animal Rescue Foundation of Tulsa from their Amazon Wishlist. When our cat passed away, Dustin was very compassionate and understanding. Our hearts go out to Dustin’s family, friends, and dear fur babies.

I’m heartbroken. Dustin was a really good friend.We met when we were both in an “extra talented children” class in elementary school (great title for putting targets on the nerd’s backs, school administrators… haha). We clicked and became pals. We played chess. I thought his mullet was rad.In Jr. High, we wound up at the same school. Though I was 6 months older and in the grade ahead of him, we still shared a few classes. My older brother got his driver’s license and we’d usually drive Dustin and his sister home after school. We both had a love of comic books, so I often stayed over and he’d write the plots and dialog to comics I would illustrate. Both of us being perfectionists, we kept scrapping them and starting over. We never finished an issue, but we had a blast getting nothing done. I still have some of the drawings…I have such great memories of hanging out in his room dreaming up superheroes, reading comics, listening to music (he had far more cutting-edge tastes than I, though I eventually caught up), and talking about life. The guy was a deep philosopher even in his early teens. He had such an incredible, witty sense of humor. The term genius gets thrown around a lot, but if you had sat in on our academic team practices, you’d agree he was one. Dustin seemed to never forget ANYTHING. Who was the Union Brigadier General in charge of cavalry at Gettysburg? I have no idea… but I’d bet money Dustin knew. Still, he wasn’t some aloof savant — he was friendly and charming. He had far more social confidence than I ever did. I greatly admired him.People drift after school, and we unfortunately did as well. I ran into him again around Tulsa in some humorous situations (omitted here for brevity). Eventually, he was managing the Starbucks right by my house in Broken Arrow. I’d stop in, we’d chat about life a bit, he’d tell me how he was thinking of starting a business machining golf clubs (why not?!), then he’d send me off with his personal fave of fresh ground beans. I greatly looked forward to those brief hangs at the end of a workday. I moved to Illinois shortly after.I wish we’d stayed in touch more. I miss him. Praying for peace and comfort for his family and friends.

To Family and Friends…my sincere, heart felt love and sympathy to you ALL!! I met and worked with Dustin at Blockbuster Video for a time in 1999 as I was an aviation student at Spartan School of Aeronautics waiting my chance to teach there as a flight instructor. Dustin and I had many good times at work and his jokes and comebacks ALWAYS kept the store fun and entertaining. My most memorable thought of Dustin will always be the night where we went out after closing to the Waffle House out by the Mall and with another friend of ours, had an eating contest where you have to eat a breakfast, lunch, and dinner (no time limit) and poor Dustin couldn’t get halfway done and this Minnesota beast took home the Waffle House Challenge!! LOL!! So, when I fly near the heavens from time to time, please know I will be saying Hi!! God Bless and RIP, DUSTIN!! =)
