Elmer L. Hemphill's Obituary
Elmer Leon Hemphill was born June 24, 1935 to Elzie & Marvel Hemphill on a farm near Tryon, OK. He developed a strong relationship with the Lord and was baptized at a young age. In 1949, they moved to Perkins, OK where he graduated from Perkins High School in 1953. He married Shirley Jenkins in 1954 and started a family in Tulsa, OK. At an early age he had an entrepreneurial spirit. He was truly a visionary who routinely saw opportunities where others only saw challenges. Elmer had an eye to see potential and help develop it in others. He began his first of many successful businesses in 1957. Throughout nearly sixty years in business he was willing to take great risks for anything he believed in. Elmer enjoyed fishing, playing cards, singing, and coaching youth sports. He married Audrey Ward in 1992. He and Audrey enjoyed entertaining family and friends and loved to cook for everyone. They loved traveling, gambling, and spending time at the lake. They were inseparable and their true love and devotion to one another is an inspiration to all. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents Elzie & Marvel, his brother Clarence and sister Barbara Joan. He is survived by his wife Audrey Hemphill of Tulsa; one sister in-law Charlene Hemphill of Bixby; three brother in-laws Carl Ward of Tulsa, Donald Ward of Warsaw, OH and Tim Ward of Tulsa; two sons and daughter in-laws, Jim & Janice Hemphill and John & Sharon Hemphill of Tulsa; two daughters Linda Harris of Broken Arrow and Rhonda Hunt of Knoxville, TN; eleven grandchildren Jamie and Jarrett, Kristen and Jim, Katie, Scott, Rodney, Gunner, Allie, Faith Ann, and Jesse; two great grandchildren Taylor and Noah and an abundance of extended family and friends whom he loved dearly. Funeral service will be held on Friday, February 12th, 2016-10:00 a.m., Faith United Methodist Church . Interment will be in Tryon, Oklahoma.
