Flora Mae Wood's Obituary
Flora Mae Wood, known by all as Mae, age 94 of Tulsa, OK passed peacefully on September 12, 2024, surrounded by her beloved family. Her son’s Stewart and Linden his wife Cindy, and grandchildren Jasmine and Trent. Mae Wood was born June 14, 1930, in Kosciusko, Mississippi to her mother Cynthia Smith and father Arnold Milner.
Mae was married on May 14, 1956, to Trent Wood. Trent and Mae were married by Trent’s father Dr. Howard Thomas Wood at Lindenwood Christian Church in Memphis, TN. Mae had many places of residence including Kosciusko, MS, Laurel, MS, Memphis, TN, and Tulsa, OK. Mae was a member of Lindenwood Christian Church in Memphis, TN, member of OSU Tulsa Master Gardeners, member of Red Hat Society, long time Red Cross Volunteer, and a lifelong republican. She spent 40 plus years as a member of The University of Tulsa Golden Hurricane Club. Being a basketball player in high school, she loved TU Basketball and the TU football team. She was a TU football and basketball ticket holder since 1980.
Upon moving to Memphis from Mississippi, she went to business school and became a secretary for a law firm in downtown Memphis. Later, when the family moved to Tulsa, OK, she went to work at the University of Tulsa and worked in the Research Department. She worked at TU for 21 years and retired in 1996.
Mae Wood was a strong and loving mother, dedicated and loving wife, and dotting and loving grandmother. She was full of life and spunk all her long life, she loved her many friends and large extended family and always had a kind word for strangers just the same.
Mae had many passions; animal rescuer, volunteer, Tulsa University, Master Gardner, friends and family, western art collector and western US traveler with the love of her life Trent! Mae counted herself very fortunate to have been married to Trent for 58 years to such an outstanding person! In her last several “Golden Years” she lived with her son Linden and his wife Cindy and said almost daily that every day with her family was a blessing.
She also had a special care giver for her last several years, Crystal Piland, who she called “my special friend”! She never missed a day to thank Crystal for everything she did for her. Thank You, Crystal!! Also, Pam Smith, who Mae called the daughter she never had. Pam was a beautiful friend to her, to her last day. Thank You, Pam!! And a Big Special Thank You to Cindy. Cindy went above and beyond in caring for Mae for years and did everything Mae needed with much love and affection. Mae never missed a day telling Cindy how much she appreciated her, loved her and would miss her while she was at work. As Mae said, the love of her family kept her going!
On behalf of Stewart, Linden, Cindy and the entire family, Thank You for being a part of our Mother’s life. Truly, a perfect example of a life well lived. RIP Mom, we love you with all our hearts! Be with me, Lord!
Mae is predeceased by her husband Trent Wood, parents Cynthia Smith and Arnold Milner, and brother Chuck Milner.
She is survived by son’s Stewart and Linden Wood; grandchildren, Zach, Jasmine and Trent, great grandchildren Brantley and Braxton, sisters Helen Gray and Joyce Bell, and brother Jerome Milner.
A celebration of Mae’s life will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 12:30PM at Floral Haven Funeral Homes Chapel in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Dr. Jay McCury will be officiating.
