Gary Wayne Flinchum's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Gary Wayne Flinchum
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Gary Wayne Flinchum, a beloved husband, brother, uncle, grandparent and friend. Gary, born on March 12, 1945, in Tulsa, OK, peacefully departed this world on October 10, 2023, in Owasso, OK, surrounded by loved ones. He brought joy to many, and his absence leaves a void in the lives of those who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
Gary was born to Lawson Flinchum and Louise (Bohanon) Flinchum. He was the eldest child of four children, with three loving sisters. A graduate of Nathan Hale High School in 1963, Gary went on to serve his country in the US army. Upon His honorable discharge, he went on to study at Oklahoma University to pursue a career in construction administration and architecture.
Affectionately known by his wife as Mr. Busy Britches, Gary was the king of the do-it-yourself-ers. Whatever needed to be done, He could do it. He was capable of fixing almost anything, and he always had a project going, whether it was at his house or someone else’s. A true handyman, He loved sharing his skills and knowledge to family and friends.
In 1992, Gary met the love of his life, Nancy Bouakadakis, during a summer bowling league, a moment that marked the beginning of a beautiful love story. Nancy recalls immediately noticing Gary’s blue eyes, and well, the rest was simply history. After 12 years of being together, Gary finally decided to add getting married to his project list. In April of 2003, Gary and Nancy tied the knot.
An outdoorsman at heart, Gary loved being outside, whether he was working, playing, or simply sitting on the porch with Nancy. With his family and friends, he was more than generous with his time, no matter how it was spent. His dry sense of humor was legend, leaving us all a legacy of Gary stories for generations to come.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Cheryl. He is survived by his devoted wife, Nancy, his sisters Marcia and Linda, his stepson Jim and his wife Anne Marie, his granddaughter Hollie, grandchildren William, Amelia, and Taryn Crawford, along with Andrew and April Graham, Gabriel and Miranda Graham, Danny and Lauren Graham, Brian and Joni Holley, Mary Lou Holley, Luke and Jenny Brummett, Leasa Ailshie and Anna Nimz, Tommy and Jessi Mayfield, as well as many other extended family members and loved ones.
