Gary Karl Newton's Obituary
Gary Karl Newton was born July 9, 1951 in Oklahoma City, OK to Eugene and Virginia Newton. He unexpectedly passed from this life on Thursday, November 16, 2023 in Tulsa, OK at the age of 72. He was a loving husband, father, Papa, brother, and friend.
Gary grew up the "oldest" of nine siblings in Tulsa, OK. Upon eligibility for the 1970 Draft, he joined the Army where he served in Viet Nam. It was here he graduated from MedTech school, which later led him to Fort Detrick, MD. He spent countless hours working for the United States Army Research Institute of Infectious Diseases lab where he helped develop vaccines for humans.
After the Army, he went back to school to receive his degree in Medical Technology. Gary loved to learn and earned multiple degrees over the course of his life. While working at Oklahoma Osteopathic Hospital, he met his wife, Carolyn (Johnston) Newton. In May of '87, their daughter, Alesha (Newton) Jacob was born. Gary spent his career building and launching the first computerized medical system for the hospital. He traveled all over the United States where he helped other hospitals implement the same technology. "I always enjoyed working with the people more than anything, and the computers were just a tool" he proudly recollected.
Gary was an avid golfer, loved to play pool, and had an immense appreciation for music. His jovial laugh and witty nature will be greatly missed.
