Harold "Hal" Watts' Obituary
Harold Lee (Hal) Watts, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, businessman, and decorated Vietnam War veteran, passed away on March 20, 2025, at the age of 85.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Lillian Watts, both of his sisters, Barbara and Dian, and his nephew, Greg. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sharon; his daughters, Darcy, and her husband Drew Genisio and Tracy, and her fiancé Ian Bassett; three granddaughters, Lauren, and her husband Josiah Showman, Sydney and Taylor Welborn; as well as many other friends and family.
Born on July 31, 1939, in Stratford, OK, to a large and loving family, Hal was the first in his family to graduate from Oklahoma State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. During his time at OSU, he was a proud member of Sigma Nu fraternity, commander, and served as president of the Panhellenic Council in his final years.
After graduation, Hal served his country in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Captain and completing two tours in Vietnam. He was awarded two Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts, both with valor, among numerous other commendations. One of his Bronze Star commendations came on November 18, 1967, when he demonstrated extraordinary bravery during a terrorist attack in Vietnam. Despite sustaining serious injuries, Hal continued to direct military police and ensure the safety of others, refusing evacuation until all casualties were cared for. His actions brought the highest credit upon himself and the United States Army. He was an absolute hero, who didn’t want any recognition.
On May 9, 1970, Hal married Sharon Mooney, and together they shared a life filled with love and devotion. Hal and Sharon were blessed with two daughters, Darcy, born in December of 1972, and Tracy, born in September of 1974. Their family grew with the addition of three beloved grandchildren: Lauren, Sydney, and Taylor. He took immense pride in his granddaughters and loved attending their sporting events and other activities, always their biggest fan.
Hal excelled in many roles throughout his career, bringing dedication and skill to every endeavor. His talents were vast, his work ethic unwavering, and his curiosity led him to explore multiple paths leading to his success.
Hal was known for his sharp intellect, his love of life, and his infectious sense of humor. He found joy in music, often singing and dancing with enthusiasm. His ability to make others laugh, as well as his love for sharing that laughter, was one of his most cherished qualities. A man who valued giving and receiving joy, Hal's warmth and wit left a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to know him.
Hal had a deep love for the water, particularly water skiing, and passed down that passion to both of his daughters at a young age, teaching them how to enjoy the thrill of the sport. He also cherished family trips, creating lasting memories with his loved ones. Hal and Sharon took special trips abroad together, experiencing the world as a couple.
Hal was deeply involved in his faith, serving as a deacon at the Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian Church in Tulsa for many years. His commitment to his church and community was a testament to his character and values.
Hal was lovingly cared for in his last 14 months by his friends at Prairie House Memory Care in Broken Arrow. Even in Memory Care, he maintained his love for life and those around him. In addition to his care there, he was loved and cared for by the wonderful people of Seasons Hospice.
Hal’s legacy of service, kindness, and laughter will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who knew him.
