Hattie Benton's Obituary
Hattie Mae (Broyhill) Benton was born in Decatur, Arkansas on July 18, 1938, to Edna (Vanzant) Broyhill Cunningham. She spent most of her childhood years growing up near Inola, Oklahoma on 160 acres that are affectionately referred to as "the farm." She began waiting tables in her teens and decided she could take those skills anywhere and by anywhere, she meant Alaska. That is where she met her future husband, David, who was serving in the military. They married on December 19, 1963 and had two sons, Denus and Dicus. Eventually, they made Catoosa, Oklahoma their home. Hattie began her own small business of cleaning homes and other establishments.
Hattie enjoyed many things in life ~ gardening, camping, being a cub scout leader, spending time at the lake, and traveling. She and David traveled to all 50 states plus Mexico and Canada. However, what she loved most was entertaining and spending time with others. Whether she was playing games, cards or working jigsaw puzzles with her grandchildren or hosting one of her New Year's Eve parties, Hattie was most content in the company of her friends and family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, David Roy Benton; parents, Newt and Edna Cunningham; grandson, David Jacob "D.J." Benton; great-granddaughter, Triniti Rain Sisco; sister, Mary Cunningham and husband, Bob; brother, Robert Broyhill; sister, Pearl Hammons and husband, Red; sister, Helen Broyhill; sister, Zoe Hudson and husband, Harold "Rocky".
Survivors include her son, Denus Benton and wife, Shellie of Catoosa; son, Dicus Benton and wife, Shelly, of Catoosa; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and many other cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
