Gary Ferrell
Harriet and family,
Please know that Henry Neufeld was one of the best men I have ever known. He was kind and thoughtful in an impatient world. No matter the challenge, he seemed to cheerfully shoulder almost any project. I cannot recall ever hearing him disparage someone else.
I met Hank at Purolator in 1990. We instantly hit it off, with cars as our mutual interest. I found him to be one of the best engineers I’d ever worked with. He simply knew how to break down a problem to it’s core elements. His mind was flexible and inquisitive. He helped me both on the job and off. He helped me in many ways when I was trying to resolve issues with testing filters.
My favorite stories have to do with the “cold start testing” rig that Hank helped me build—in your garage. Ha. Of course, that led me to send Terry Baltzer over to help Hank and may be the reason why Terry is now your son-in-law. Ha.
I always felt a bit guilty asking Hank for his opinion on a car or technical matter…because I knew he would volunteer to help or even to make something for me. It was so much fun to work with him. To this day, I can lay my hands on tools or fixtures that he built for me.
The world has lost one of the best men I’ve known. We should all strive to be more like him.
