Jack Alvin Shields Sr.'s Obituary
Jack Alvin Shields Sr. was born in Afton, Oklahoma on August 9th, 1931 to Jesse Alvin Shields and Fay May Schwartz. Jack graduated from Afton High School in 1949; joined the United States Army in 1949 and served as a Sergeant in the Korean War. He received the Korean Service Medal, UN Service Medal, and the Meritorious Unit Commander Bars. In 1953, Jack met the love of his life, Bobbie Jean Jones and married on July 29th of 1955. This year would have been their 62nd wedding anniversary. Jack served on the Tulsa Fire Department from 1959-1979 and retired as the first District Fire Chief of the Tulsa International Airport. Jack found another passion working in the environmental industry. In which, landed him at Sooner Emergency Services for the remainder of his life. Where he earned the reputation as the Guru of the Haz-Mat Industry. Jack was a jolly man and always had a smile on his face. Everyone that knew him would agree to know him was to love him. Jack had many passions in life – first was his wife Bobbie, family, cooking, NASCAR, and if you knew him well enough he would let you know why he kept a skillet on the back porch. Jack not only loved feeding birds but also enjoyed watching them. To list everything Jack did in his lifetime would be nearly impossible. He served in many capacities such as; Member of the Scottish Rite ,Akdar Shriners, Chemical Hazard Material Managers, and he also advised on an Environmental Committee for Sen. Jim Inhofe in the late 90’s. Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Jessie Alvin Shields (father) and Fay May Schwartz (mother), Johnnie Shields (sister), as infant Harold Shields (brother). Survived by his loving wife Bobbie Jean Shields, sister Joan True and nephew Tom True (Vicky). Jack has 3 adoring children ; Jack Alvin Shields Jr. (Judy), Brett Michael Shields (Donna), Susan Danielle Shields-Thompson (Greg). He has 6 grandchildren, who loved him so; Jackson D. Shields, Heather L. Johnson, Ashley A. Shields-Cassidy, Amanda L. McDonald, Steven R. Shields, and Lillian D. Gower. Several great-grandchildren; Mickinzee, Shaely, Jackson “Big Bubba”, Kaely, Kenny Jr. “ Little Bubba”, Cadence,,and Kenadee; who all loved Big Papa’s Cooking. Jack was also a member of View Acres Baptist Church in Berryhill, OK. Visitation will be held at Floral Haven in Broken Arrow on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 from 5-7pm. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, April 12th at 12:30 pm at Floral Haven. Final Resting place will be at Floral Haven.
