Anthony Richardson's Obituary
James Anthony Richardson was born on October 27, 1969, in Seattle, Washington. He spent his early years living in Asia, England, and Germany while his family followed military assignments. He is survived by his wife Nina Mawby, his mother Patricia Richardson, his mother-in-law Helena Mawby, his brother David Richardson, his sister Yvonne Bailey and her husband Greg Bailey, his nephews Anthony and Donovan, and his nieces Cortney, Brianna, and Elorah. He is preceded by his father Charles Richardson. His family eventually settled in Oklahoma, where Anthony entered Broken Arrow High School and quickly made Tulsa feel like home. A gifted athlete, he became known for his drive and discipline on the soccer field. Anthony attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte on soccer and baseball scholarships. After his first semester, he chose to focus solely on soccer. He later graduated with a degree in Psychology. Following graduation, he played professionally with Wiesbaden in Germany before returning home to play for the Tulsa Roughnecks. Upon returning to Tulsa, Anthony devoted himself to coaching. He led teams at various youth clubs and served on the coaching staff at Oral Roberts University. His players remember him as patient, steady, insightful, and deeply committed to their growth. Over the years, he became a beloved coach and mentor whose influence extended well beyond the field. On September 10, 2011, Anthony married Nina Mawby in Jamaica. Their ceremony reflected the adventurous, joyful spirit they shared. To Anthony, Nina was not only his wife but his best friend and soulmate; they were each other’s entire world. Their love was special and rare. Anthony was equally known for the rich life he built off the field. Among friends, he was affectionately called “the mayor” for the way he brought people together. His presence carried a calm dignity, and he made others feel seen, heard, valued, and respected. He was not materialistic, but what he valued and collected most was friendships above all else. Or his extensive wardrobe and shoe collection. He found joy in many sports throughout his life. Golf became one of his greatest passions, and through it he formed lasting, meaningful friendships. In the year before his passing, he discovered a new love for tennis, quickly becoming part of yet another community where he was sure to collect more life long friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at Meadowbrook Country Club on Saturday, 11/29/2025, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Coffee Bunker an organization that Anthony previously supported. https://coffeebunker.org/tribute-donations/ He will be remembered for his integrity, sarcastic humor, generosity, and the light he brought to every room. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched—players, friends, colleagues, and all who were fortunate enough to be part of his world. Those who were closest to him flourished in the light of his love and kindness. He will be forever loved and missed.
