As an older cousin that lived in Arizona, I didn't get many opportunities to spend time with Janis but cherish those times I did. My most vivid memory was at our grandfather's house in Enid, Oklahoma when we were quite young (I am five years older). We took endless joy in playing with grandpa's dog, Pepper. Pepper could catch a ball mid-air, put it down, grab a corncob pipe in his mouth, and push the ball with his paws back to the thrower. Even then, Janis' laugh was infectious. She was gentle and her joy of being with family was unmistakable. May all who loved her find peace and comfort in fond memories of how her life enriched us.
